About Carsten Arnold

For decades I have explored and documented the wild and remote landscapes of Canada, from alpine passes in British Columbia to the arctic tundra of the Northwest Territories. These images are collected and proudly featured in private homes, businesses, and hospitality spaces around the world.
Alongside my fine art images, I continue to photograph distinguished architecture and interiors for discerning clients throughout Canada. For the past two decades, and over 6,000 documented spaces, my approach blends technical precision with a refined visual style.
Photography became part of my life in the 1970s while spending much time in darkrooms and learning to process black and white, color, and slide film by hand. Those early years were about patience, chemistry, and the quiet satisfaction of watching an image appear in the developer tray. What began as curiosity became a lifelong pursuit of craft, clarity, and excellence.
That same dedication carried into careers in the printing, publishing, and technology fields, each offering new ways to understand how image and information are created and shared. Teaching at Vancouver Community College, the University of the Fraser Valley, workshops, and presentations as a guest speaker offered a chance to pass on knowledge, while years as director of information technology for one of Canada’s largest publishers strengthened a deep respect for structure, precision, and the value of process.
These experiences formed the foundation for the way I approach photography today. Every image begins with careful attention to detail, yet the goal is always to move beyond the technical to create something that will evoke an emotional and lasting connection.
My fieldwork and creative journeys are also shared on Capture Reel Adventure, a YouTube channel that follows my expeditions through Canada’s wilderness, combining gear reviews, offroad adventures,
fly fishing, and photography.
